Geekbench 5

Geekbench 5 ist ein Multi-System Benchmark und misst die Leistung eines Computers. Das Ergebnis wird in einer Punktzahl angegeben und lässt sich mit anderen Prozessoren bzw. Systemen vergleichen. Dabei dürfen allerdings nur die Punktzahlen innerhalb der gleichen Software-Version des Geekbench verglichen werden.

Die Version 5 von Geekbench enthält neue Testfelder wie etwa Augmented Reality Anwendungen sowie Berechnungen für maschinelles Lernen. Der Single-Core Teil von Geekbench 5 misst dabei die Leistung des Computers unter der Nutzung von nur einem CPU-Kern. Die Einkern-Leistung des Prozessors ist auch heute noch für viele Anwenungszwecke interessant, denn häufig kann die Software nur einen CPU-Kern bzw. Thread gleichzeitig nutzen. Die Einkern-Last ist auch für kurze Leistungsspitzen und für das Arbeiten innerhalb des Betriebssystems interessant.

Moderne Prozessoren besitzen nicht mehr eine fest definierte Taktfrequenz, sondern takten ihre CPU-Kerne entsprechend der anfallenden Auslastung des Prozessors. Bei Einkern-Last Szenarien wird der einzelne CPU-Kern so meist deutlich höher getaktet, als wenn mehrere CPU-Kerne parallel genutzt werden. Hier spielt auch das Power Limit des Prozessors bzw. die verfügbare Kühlleistung des Computers eine große Rolle. So kann es passieren, dass ein Prozessor in einem anderen Notebook (welches über eine bessere Kühlung verfügt) deutlich schneller rechnet bzw. sich deutlich länger in höheren Taktfrequenzen aufhalten kann.

Ein großer Vorteil des Geekbench 5 ist, dass dieser Plattformübergreifend verfügbar ist. Er funktioniert nicht nur auf den Betriebssystemen Windows, Mac OS und Linux, sondern auch mit ARM-Prozessoren. So lassen sich erstmals auch Prozessoren von Samsung oder Mediathek mit denen von AMD und Intel vergleichen.
